As a teacher myself, I would have addressed the situation as well. I teach my students that their parents work very hard to make sure that they their child has clothes on their back, a shelter and food. Food is so expensive these days that, to me, a child who throws away food for no good reason is being disrespectful to the parents who have put the food in their lunch box. It is ok to not like certain foods, but don't throw it away! Instead, put it back in your lunch box and bring it back home. Perhaps someone else will eat that food? There are also so many people who don't even have enough food to eat. Children need to learn the value of things and the hard work that goes behind earning money to buy that food. Teachers are teachers and will try to teach life lessons to the children that they teach. You cannot always think that there is a malicious thought behind the action
To me, a teacher who takes issue with a child throwing away over-ripe fruit is being disrespectful to the child. Talk to the parent if you are so concerned. I also wouldn't want overripe food fobbed off on poor children. The only life lessons you'd be teaching there involve humiliation. If there are hungry kids in the school, the teachers who are so concerned with teaching life lessons could make sure they got enough decent food to eat.
joyce:The teacher is right! But it may be better to call the parents and let them know about the situation and have them to deal with the kid. (2014-03-06 10:11)
